Japanese sex words and phrases: sekkusu, ecchi, and dirty talk

This is quite a dirty, indecent, and hot topic [+18]: the Japanese words that actually show up when sex is the subject — in slang, in adult video, and in the bedroom when someone has to speak.

A lot of readers arrive here from hentai and ecchi. The trap is register. Sekkusu is the English loan; the word people toss around is often just H. One dame can be a tease or a hard stop, and copying an AV line as if it were a rule will not save you.

Sex in Japanese — sekkusu and ecchi

The everyday word for sex is a loan from English and is said as sekkusu [セックス]. Another common one is ecchi [エッチ], which covers indecent, sensual, dirty, obscene — and the act itself. People write it as H because H is the first letter of hentai in romaji.

Ecchi or H is more common than the actual word poruno [ポルノ] when someone points at adult content. Another popular piece we also use here is ero [エロ], from erotic.

What do nakadashi and sotodashi mean?

In Japanese, nakadashi [中出し] literally means “release inside.” As adult slang it means to ejaculate inside a partner — the creampie. Dictionaries gloss it as intravaginal ejaculation, but the pieces are just naka (inside) and dasu (to let out), so it can also refer to ejaculating inside elsewhere. In practice it usually means inside the vagina.

The opposite is sotodashi [外出し], coming outside. To name vaginal ejaculation specifically, there is chitsu-nai shasei [膣内射精].

Some dictionaries also list nakadashi as “intravaginal ejaculation” or “creampie.” The word is vulgar, common in AV titles, and not something you drop in polite Japanese.

In adult audio, women often say dame [ダメ] and yamete [やめて]. In a scene they can sound like teasing — “don’t,” “stop, I can’t take it.” In a real room they still mean no and stop. Sexual positions in Japanese

There are thousands of sexual positions, from the Kamasutra to the ones everyone already knows. What fewer people notice is that Japan has its own classic set: the Forty-Eight Hands, shijuuhatte [四十八手].

The name comes from the old “48 hands” of sumo — a lucky round number for “every basic technique.” In the Edo period the same word was reused for erotic prints, and in that sense there really are 48 positions. You will also hear people stretch it to “all the tricks.” We will not list the old shunga one by one here, because each one would need a description. The table below is the modern vocabulary:
