Do you have questions about how to get a passport? In this article, we will teach you the step-by-step process to easily obtain your passport! The steps are simple, and you will need to gather a series of documents.

After that, you will need to fill out the form on the federal police website, pay the fee, and then schedule your visit to the nearest office. After that, you will need to go there with all the necessary documentation and then schedule the pickup of your passport.

Documentation to Obtain a Passport

As mentioned earlier, to obtain a passport, you will need to gather some of your documents. It is extremely important to collect them, as they will be necessary when you go to the Federal Police office. There will be an appointment, and you will need to present yourself there, and your documents will be validated.

The list of necessary documents is as follows:

  • Your Identification Document: This can be your ID card, expired passport, functional card from a public agency, CNH – National Driver’s License (Remember to bring your birth certificate along with the CNH to validate your place of birth), CTPS – Work and Social Security Card.
  • CPF – Bring it if it is not on your ID or another document showing it.
  • Marriage Certificate – Necessary mainly to change your name from single to married.
  • Naturalization Certificate – If you have been naturalized as a Brazilian.
  • Voter Registration Card – This is not mandatory, but we emphasize that you should check if your situation with the electoral justice is up to date.
  • Voting Proof – Optional (but better safe than sorry)
  • Military Enrollment and Discharge Certificate – The Federal Police pulls everything through their system, but it’s good to bring it, as if any discrepancies arise, you can bring it and resolve the issue right away.

Fill Out the Form on the Federal Police Website

You should go to the Federal Police website and fill out the passport application form. Fill in all your personal data, documents, and additional information required accurately. In the end, a screen will show for you to review and confirm your data, so pay close attention.

After that, you will have access to the protocol; it is necessary that you write it down correctly as it will be needed in the future. After this, you can also issue the GRU – Union Collection Guide, pay it to schedule your appointment (we will talk about this further down).

Pay the GRU – Passport Issuance Fee

After filling out all the forms and confirming, write down the protocol, and you will be taken to a screen to issue the GRU. The GRU needs to be paid, and you should pay it immediately at your bank or lottery house.

After payment, wait 24 to 48 hours for your payment to be processed in the system. Once the payment is confirmed, you should go back to the website and follow the step-by-step process for scheduling below.

Schedule a Day to Go to the Federal Police Department

Once confirmed in the system, you can go back to the Federal Police website, fill in your CPF and protocol, to schedule your visit to the nearest Federal Police office to your residence.

Attend the DPF Office with All Documents

Bring all the documentation that was requested on the website, and all that was described in this article. Remember to bring the paid guide printed and the application protocol. If you have questions about any document, always bring extra.

Collect Your Passport

After completing the entire procedure, try to access the Federal Police website and follow the progress of your passport issuance. Once confirmed on the website that your document is ready, you can go to the indicated location and collect it.

Bring an identification document and the receipt given to you at the time of your visit. After that, just continue your trip whether by plane, car, or kombi house, just travel.
