Did you know that there is a Japanese anime of the famous Disney mascot from the 2000s, Stitch? And did you know that this anime has more than 3 seasons and was made by the famous MadHouse in conjunction with Disney? In this article, we will talk about the Japanese version of Lilo and Stitch.

Stitch [スティッチ!] is an anime series released in 2008 in Japan, a spin-off of the Lilo and Stitch movies and series that takes place in the future on the island of Okinawa. The series was not exclusive to Japan, and the first season even aired on Brazilian TV.

The series had 3 seasons, with the first having 25 episodes and the second and third with 29 episodes each. Its release was between the years 2008 and 2011, and many characters from the movie appear, such as Jumba Jookiba, Pleakley, and Captain Gantu.

Ichariba Choode – Japanese Version of Ohana

For those who don’t know, the movie Lilo and Stitch was made by Disney and released in 2002, and it was a big part of my childhood. Since then, we have had other movies and series from the franchise. But personally, I was unaware of the anime until the date of this article.

In the original series, an alien pet falls on the Hawaiian island, and a little girl named Lilo starts to raise it. In the movie, we see several references to Elvis and also to traditional Hawaiian culture.

In the Japanese anime, the story takes place 10 years later in Okinawa, where Stitch meets a girl named Yuna. In the anime, we see several references to Okinawan culture.

In the original series, the protagonists mention the word Ohana several times, which in Hawaiian culture means family, but goes beyond blood ties and can represent friendship. Similarly, the movie states that family can never abandon or forget.

In the Japanese version, we have the word Ichariba Choode, which is the name of the first episode of the anime, and is frequently pronounced by Stitch, even becoming a song by Yuna.

The proverb “Ichariba Choode” mentioned in the Stitch anime means “even though we have only met once, even by chance, we are friends forever.” There is also a song with this name in the anime.

Lyrics of the Song Ichariba Choode Sung by Yuna:

 Surrounded by the ocean
and the sky is always blue
 our good deeds are rewarded
 our dreams are coming true
 on your journey through life
friends will help you every day
knowing that you can always count on them
will guide you on your way
 Ichariba Chode
 We are one big family
 and we always will be
 just like cousins
 you can count on me.

Let’s finish the article by leaving the opening of the third season below for you to take a look. I hope you enjoyed the article. Did you know about the Stitch anime? If you liked the article, share it and leave your comments.

Remembering that a new Spin-Off of Stitch set in China was recently released. This is the famous Disney trying to squeeze money with repetitive stories instead of releasing a worthy continuation of the original series.
