Black Anime Characters – Female and Male

Even though Japan is a country with little ethnic diversity, anime always uses characters of black color or dark skin. In this article we are going to see the main characters of black anime men and women, female or male.

The Japanese love black people, many end up thinking that prejudice in Japan is because of the color of the skin, but it is quite likely that a black person is better treated than mestizo Japanese themselves.

It doesn't matter if the person is black, white, blonde or with curly hair, as it is different from the Japanese standard, it will definitely attract a certain kind of attention, and this also happens in anime.

They are usually represented with an extroverted and lively character, unlike the Japanese who are generally shy and introverted.

Many dark-skinned characters appear frequently in anime, some appear as if they were Japanese, without subtlying as someone of mixed race or Afro descent.

It is worth noting that the final list of this article can include dark characters, mestizos, Indians, tans and others, any character with dark skin.

Michiko Malandro and Afro Samurai – Black Protagonists

Michiko is a protagonist of anime Michiko and Hatchin which makes reference to Brazil. An Afro-Latin with a design based on the famous R&B singer Aaliyah.

One of the few black protagonists in anime, she is smart, beautiful, able to deal with any problem as police and bounty hunters.

Now Afro Samurai is an anime where the name says it all, he is considered the second best swordsman in the whole world, his anime is very successful. This reminded me of an article where he talks about black samurai in Japan.

Black Characters in Hunter vs. Hunter

In the Anime Hunter x Hunter we find two black characters that stand out among the rest, the girl Canary who is an apprentice butler at the Zoldyck mansion, and the dog tamer Squala in the arc of the Phantom Troupe.

Both characters gained the charisma and empathy of fans even with a short appearance. Perhaps because of his designer and background in history, and Squala is the protagonist of the little romance present in the anime.

Canary's hair also drew a lot of attention, her appearance and personality is quite charismatic. I don't know why I decided to highlight these two characters from Hunter X Hunter, maybe it's because I'm watching it for the fourth time as I write this article.
