Who doesn’t know or at least has heard of the Monogatari series anime? For many, the terror of those frames in the middle of the scenes is etched into their souls (like me). In other cases, people spend more time stopping to read the content of those frames than watching the anime itself.

Anyway, we cannot deny that the Monogatari series has a good/great story. It’s a shame that the animes do not follow a chronological order according to the events. This ends up leaving a somewhat uncomfortable feeling while watching. But everything passes as the story develops on its own.

And just to list it here, the nekomata most famous of all animes (in my opinion and many others). Who is none other than our Hanekawa, the best girl in the entire anime. Whom the protagonist ended up rejecting, contradicting and revolting a good part of the fans.

Monogatari series

Anyway, leave your opinions in the comments. Let’s continue with our presentation. The Monogatari series animes originated from a light novel, which was written by Nishio Ishin and illustrated by Vofan. It was released on November 1, 2006.

The success led to the first adaptation in anime form on July 3, 2009. This first version had only 15 episodes – with 12 episodes released on television and the other 3 on the internet.

Although it may seem like a failure – due to the number of episodes – the series is one of the best-selling in history. Subsequently receiving six more animated adaptations, various short films, OVAs, and movies.

It happens that the generic title brings to the reader – later viewer – quick romances. Therefore, there are several seasons with different titles and new arcs. You can check out all the animated adaptations below.

1. bakemonogatari

Released on July 3, 2009, it is the first adaptation of the novelist Nishio Ishin. It had 12 episodes aired on Japanese television and the last three on the internet.

The story revolves around Koyomi Araragi, a third-year high school student who is a vampire. One day, a very introverted student trips on a staircase, her disaster causes her to fall into the arms of Koyomi. The beautiful Hitagi Senjougahara – according to the vampire – seemed to have no weight. She was light, as light as a feather.

The young girl threatens Koyomi and asks him not to tell anyone. However, the boy ignores Hitagi’s request and offers help to the girl.

2. Nisemonogatari (2012)

After Koyomi wakes up, he realizes that he is being held captive. Later, it is revealed that Hitagi captured him and keeps him imprisoned for his own good. The young girl then begins to provoke him in various ways.

This plot introduces new characters and other elements present in Japanese folklore.

3. Nekomonogatari (Black) (2012)

This new saga begins before the events of the 2009 anime – Bakemonogatari. After Tsukihi kicks Koyomi out of bed, he asks his sister about her feelings for a classmate.

The next day, Koyomi is riding his bike around the neighborhood when he encounters Tsubasa, his classmate. The girl had a bandage on her face and reveals that her stepfather abused her.

The young man offers the power of his blood to heal her. Later, the girl is possessed by an evil spirit that inhabited a cat. From there, things start to unfold more and become increasingly romantic and demonic.

4. Nekomonogatari (White) (2013)

The beginning of the second season of the Monogatari series marks the start of the second semester at Koyomi’s school.

Tsubasa encounters a spirit in the form of a large white tiger. Intrigued by the occurrence, she reports the event to Hitagi. The protagonist’s sister suggests asking Koyomi for help, but Tsubasa refuses.

Later, a suspicious fire destroys her house. Hitagi helps her friend, and the two begin to investigate whether the large white tiger is related to the fire in her house.

5. Kabukimonogatari (2013)

It is the last day of summer vacation, and Koyomi is looking for Mayoi. While the boy searches, he encounters Yotsugi. He reveals to Koyomi that, just like Mayoi, when he died, instead of becoming immortal, he turned into a ghost.

The protagonist finds himself at a crossroads because he needs to finish his summer homework. Soon, he starts to think about the possibility of going back in time to finish the assignment.

He and Shinobu open a portal to go back one day in the past. However, they realize they have gone back eleven years in time.

6. Otorimonogatari (2013)

With her body completely transformed into an apparition, Nadeko confronts Shinobu and Koyomi. The main character tries to attack her in an attempt to kill her. However, it is Koyomi who receives a stab in the heart.

These are the first minutes of the first episode. The narrative begins a few days earlier, on Halloween.

7. Onimonogatari (2013)

Continuation of Kabukimonogatari, Koyomi finally manages to return to the present and returns Mayoi’s backpack.

In their regression, a mysterious being begins to pursue the two. They can only escape with the help of Yotsugi, who flies away, fleeing from the being.

When telling Shinobu about the creature, they discover that this darkness was seen by her in Japan 400 years ago. If nothing is done, it could destroy the entire city.

8. Koimonogatari (2013)

On New Year’s Day, Hitagi calls Kaiki requesting his services as a con artist. Kaiki tries to lie to her, saying he is in another city, but the excuse is not enough. The girl blackmails him, saying she will reveal his secrets.

9. Hanamonogatari (2014)

With Koyomi and his friends graduating, the story focuses on Suruga Kanbaru’s third year of high school. Dealing with problems from her monstrous left hand, she discovers that there is a devil around that could solve her “little” problem.

10. Tsukimonogatari (2014)

After Koyomi is awakened by his sisters, he realizes it is Valentine’s Day. The girls start to get into various discussions, showing a more human conversation about the behavior of girls, school duties, and their preparation for the future.

However, there is a narrative break when Koyomi realizes that, upon leaving the bath, his reflection is no longer appearing in the mirror. The young man had completely transformed into a vampire.

11. Owarimonogatari I (2015)

The story returns to the point where Koyomi meets Ougi. In the present, the two find themselves locked in a bizarre classroom. For some reason – and somehow – they both live a nightmare stored in Koyomi’s memories.

12. Koyomimonogatari (2016)

It backtracks the events of Bakemonogatari, Koyomi and Tsubasa discover a mysterious stone in the school garden. The plot makes several twists around the other series.

13. Owarimonogatari II (2017)

After being killed by Gaen, Koyomi is sent straight to the deepest part of hell. There he meets Mayoi, who introduces him to his liberator, Teori.

Teori offers reincarnation to the young Koyomi, who is unsure about the request.

Monogatari series – KIZUMONOGATARI and zokuowamonogatari

There are three movies that adapt the arc at the beginning of the entire story. Where Koyomi meets for the first time Acerola-orion Heart-under-blade, the vampire who turns him into a vampire. (The same one who is the best loli (there are several in the anime) of the entire anime)

There is also a fourteenth story to be released in May of this year, titled Zokuowarimonogatari.

Monogatari Series - All the animes so far

my favorite Loli

Another great part for Monogatari series fans is the character designs. For some reason, they make us feel something like affection more than normal for the character. So much so that even when we realize there is a “villain,” we quickly lose much of the hostility. I can’t explain this, and I don’t even know if everyone feels this way.

The point is that the character designs are captivating. And I don’t know why, the anime has several lolis, with literally striking personalities. For example, my favorite loli of all animes is none other than Yotsugi Ononoki. This one:

And I don’t want to know, come the UN, the Federal Police, the Military Police, the FBI, the SWAT, the Guardianship Council can come together if they want. But no one can stop me from declaring this here. Anyway, let’s wrap it up here, so as not to stray further from the topic of Monogatari series.
