Vergo's Hamburger from One Piece: Recipe

Vergo's Hamburger from One Piece: Recipe

A plate hamburger steak tied to Vergo's breakfast in the Punk Hazard arc.

Learn how to make a Japanese-style handmade hamburger, a cheese-stuffed hambāgu served on a plate. The method uses onion softened in butter, a pinch of nutmeg, and a square of melting cheese sealed inside the patty.

This hamburger appeared in the series in the Punk Hazard arc, chapter 673, during the presentation of the antagonist Vergo, who still has a piece of hamburger on his face. Monet asks if he ate one that morning, and he says it is his favorite. Before starting, read the recipe carefully and make sure you are cooking the meat at the correct temperature, so you don't eat raw meat! Let's get started!

  • black pepper (a pinch)
  • grated nutmeg (a pinch)
  • ½ chopped onion

  • 4 squares of melting cheese about 3 cm across (mozzarella or cheddar)
  • 400 grams of ground chuck, or a mix of beef and pork

How to Make

1. Put the onion and butter in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave for 45 seconds, until the onion is soft. Some versions cook the onion for up to 1 minute and 30 seconds; if your microwave runs hot, stop sooner so it does not burn.

2. In a bowl, combine the meat, breadcrumbs, egg, salt, nutmeg, pepper, garlic, and the cooked onion in butter. Mix everything with your hands.

3. Take a small amount of the meat in your hands and flatten it. Place a cheese square in the center, cover with a bit more meat, and seal the edges so the cheese stays inside. Shape the hamburgers and set them on a plate.

4. Put a bit of butter in a frying pan and fry the hamburgers on low heat for 4 to 5 minutes on each side.

The sides that go with the hamburger are:

  • Seasoned corn: just add a pinch of salt and black pepper to a drained can of corn.
  • Rustic potatoes: wash 4 potatoes using a brush. Boil for 5 minutes. Then cut each potato into 4 pieces and fry.
  • Fried egg: fry the egg in hot butter.

Plate arrangement: first place the corn, then the hamburger in the center, and finally the potatoes and the egg. Eat while it's hot! In the SBS of volume 69, Eiichiro Oda also lists fries and a strawberry milkshake with Vergo's morning hamburger, so the rustic potatoes already sit close to that plate.
