Anime characters often have strong personalities, and it's increasingly common to come across characters with psychopathic traits. But what exactly is a psychopathic character? They are figures with behavioural and personality disorders who tend to be self-centred, dishonest, irresponsible, and take pleasure in other people's suffering. They feel no guilt, are emotionally detached, and avoid commitment.
Many anime characters have seriously disturbed personalities. It's common to find yandere girls whose obsession with their beloved becomes so intense that it tips into the psychopathic. Other psychopaths simply love to manipulate. The Japanese word for psychopath is 精神病質 (seishinbyō-shitsu), which literally means "sick mind and temperament". In this article, we look at the most psychopathic characters in anime.
