Tokyo Ravens Season 1 arrived in 2013. It was quite popular at the time. Ever since then, the fans have been anxiously waiting for the second season. Here’s everything you need to know about Tokyo Ravens Season 2!
Tokyo Ravens is an animation series based on the Japanese light novel series with the same title. The writer of the light novels series is Kohei Azano.
Anime studio Eight Bit adapted the novel series. The first season of the anime ended in 2014. It’s almost the end of 2020, and the fans are raising questions about “Tokyo Ravens Season 2”.
What Tokyo Ravens is All About
The narrative of Tokyo Ravens is about Onmyou magic. It is a strong supernatural ritual. An Onmyouji Yakou ceremony is conducted to make Japan a formidable nation, but the process goes wrong and makes the whole Japanese continent possessed.
The central plot of the series is about Haruturo, who doesn’t have any magical powers despite being born to an Omnyyoji family. He strives to save the world when he gets to know that the Onmyo Agency is trying to perform the ritual again.
Overview of Tokyo Ravens Season 1
The first season of Tokyo Ravens was telecasted on October 9, 2013. It continued till March 26, 2013.
One of the best elements we like about Tokyo Ravens is that as common as the plot of ‘Tokyo Ravens’ might look, we appreciate that it does not limit itself with a 12-episode format and instead uses the 24-episode format. It made the overall flow very smooth.
This change also enables it to give proper justice to the reference material and supports the characters’ development.
Being an action genre anime, it lasts up to its fame and gives the viewers some extraordinary fighting scenes with above-average animation. But the problem occurs when it tries to utilize CGI in those scenes and goes way beyond.
Even though the first few episodes had a slow start, the second half of the anime caught the pace and started winning the viewer’s hearts.
We cannot call the Tokyo Ravens a masterpiece, but it isn’t a failure either. What really goes in its favor is its different kinds of characters who have wisdom and unpredictable personalities.
Ever since the first season concluded, the fans are anxiously waiting for the second season of Tokyo Ravens. It usually happens with many anime like One Punch Man to make a comeback, but for Tokyo Ravens, it has been almost seven years.
Still, there’s no word from the production studio about Tokyo Ravens Season 2. What is it that prevents it from releasing? Let’s try to find the answer!
Why Is There No Tokyo Ravens Season 2 Yet?
If we take reference material into account, 11 volumes of the original light novel are available, out of which the first season adapted nine.
It’s challenging for the makers to create a sequel with only two volumes. The authors of the manga series haven’t announced anything about its renewal. As of now, the future of this anime looks hazy.
Unfortunately, things didn’t work out in favor of Tokyo Ravens, from the content to sales and prestige. It isn’t very pleasing for the viewers who hoped for the second season, but it sometimes happens.
Talking about the profit and popularity of the first season of Tokyo Ravens, it didn’t meet the expectations here as well. Tokyo Ravens hasn’t performed well in selling light novels or Blu-ray DVDs.
As the possibilities for a sequel highly depend on how well the previous season goes, it doesn’t seem very hopeful in the case of Tokyo Ravens. Looking at these factors, many viewers have considered it as canceled.
What to Expect From Tokyo Ravens Season 2
According to some reports, Tokyo Ravens season 2 might not start where the first season ended. It might take a different stance than the first season.
The second season might reveal something that is not addressed before and is predicted till now. The second season of Tokyo Ravens might focus more on the origin of demoniac powers. It might reveal the truth of the Onmyoji ceremony as well.
Tokyo Ravens Season 2: Characters
It seems that if the second season arrives, we might see some new characters. At the same time, the lead characters will remain the same. Let’s know who they are!
Harutora Tsuchimikado: Harutora Tsuchimikado is the main protagonist of the first half and the son of a family from the Tsuchimikado clan. Despite being born into a noble Onmyouji family, he doesn’t have any magical powers. He seems to live a peaceful life, as he could not achieve anything without any supernatural powers.
Touji Ato: Touji Ato is Harutora’s best friend from school. He can sense spirits and has a deep understanding of onmyodo. He realized that Natsume had conjured Hokuto before Hokuto herself. He is registered at the Onmyo Academy in Tokyo with Harutora and usually helps Harutora get into trouble.
Natsume: Natsume is the main protagonist of the second half. She is Harutora’s childhood mate and the daughter of the main family of the Tsuchimikado race. She is a rich onmyouji visiting a school in Tokyo. She is also an heiress to the Tsuchimikado family. People consider her as the incarnation of Yakou Tsuchimikado.
Suzuka Dairenji: Suzuka Dairenji is the youngest of the Twelve Divine Generals, known as “the Prodigy.” She is a wanted criminal for studying and practicing a forbidden spell. Suzuka comes to the village to search for Natsume, so she can utilize her magical powers in the Taizan Fukun Ritual, which Natsume has been studying, with Yakou Tsuchimikado, to revive her brother. This leads Suzuka into conflict with the Onmyo Agency.
Tokyo Ravens Season 2: Release Date
Considering the facts we mentioned earlier, we can say that the makers of Tokyo Ravens used it to promote the volumes of the light novel series and make more and more profit for the publishers, which didn’t happen.
The release date of Tokyo Ravens season 2 is yet to be formally announced but looking at the current progress on the subject and the movements of the Shonen Ace, we can assume that Tokyo Ravens Season 2 might arrive in the fall of 2021.
