With almost a year since its release, Kimetsu No Yaiba is still the sensation of the moment in terms of the most watched animes on the Netflix platform! Let’s now see more details about this anime and why it captures the audience’s attention so much.

The story of Kimetsu No Yaiba
The anime Kimetsu No Yaiba (鬼滅) was renamed as Demon Slayer in the West. The Shonen manga Kimetsu no Yaiba was the inspiration for the anime, which is directed by Haruo Sotozaki and produced by Ufotable.
The unfolding of the story takes place in Japan between 1912 and 1926, during which the Taisho Emperor reigned.
Kimetsu no Yaiba tells the story of Tanjirō, who upon returning from his work with charcoal found his parents and five siblings murdered. His mother and siblings were killed by a very powerful oni known as Muzan Kibutsuji, a race that preys on humans, threatening the well-being of the community, but can also be translated as demon or ogre.
The oni was unable to kill his sister Nezuko, but since she was injured by this creature, she ended up becoming one of them. The onis are attracted to blood, so they feed on humans. Although Nezuko transformed into this creature, she couldn’t bring herself to kill her brother, even feeling drawn to the smell of blood, as she still possessed human thoughts and emotions.
To try to help his sister regain her human form, Tanjirō became a demon slayer; he received training, underwent tests, and managed to join the group.
So during this journey to find a cure for Nezuko, Tanjirō faced several battles with onis, and most of the time his sister helped him defeat them. Tanjirō relies on the help of his friends, who are also oni hunters, to solve this problem.
Main characters of Kimetsu no Yaiba
Tanjirō Kamado is the protagonist of the anime, and his most notable abilities are Water Breathing (the one most used by the character) and the Dance of the Fire God that his father performed. His goal is to perfect this last technique.
Nezuko Kamado is an oni and the younger sister of Tanjiro Kamado. Being an oni, she has great abilities and physical strength, but since she has never fed on humans, she carries a piece of bamboo in her mouth to avoid attacking anyone. She can grow and shrink in size and is not resistant to sunlight.
Inosuke Hashibira or boar head was actually raised by boars, which is why throughout the anime he has difficulty acting socially, even in the way he dresses. Inosuke initially sees everyone as his enemies and wants to attack. He thinks he is the best and most powerful demon slayer.
Zenitsu Agatsuma is the coward of the series! His desperate and pessimistic nature is even agonizing to watch. However, he is more powerful than he thinks; strangely, when he experiences immense fear, he loses consciousness, and when he wakes up, he seems like a different person and becomes very strong due to his enhanced strength. Oh, and he has a crush on Nezuko.
Kyojuro Rengoku makes an appearance right at the end of the first season but becomes one of the main characters in the movie that continues the anime. Kyojuro Rengoku is the Flame Pillar who masters the powerful Flame Breathing and its remaining seven forms, passed down from generation to generation by the Rengoku family.
Continuation and New season of Demon Slayer
On Netflix, only the first season, which has 26 episodes, is currently available. However, the continuation has already been released in most countries; it is the movie titled Demon Slayer — Kimetsu no Yaiba — The Movie: Mugen Train.
For those who have seen the first season, they know that Tanjirō, Nezuko, Inosuke Hashibira, and Zenitsu Agatsuma board a train and will count on the help of the Flame Pillar: Kyojuro Rengoku.
He will help Tanjirō in this new mission and to better understand and control a fire dance that his father performed, which helped him in one of his battles. But on this train, there is already a super powerful oni whose objective is to merge with the train and kill everyone, especially the demon slayers.
Certainly, in the end, the demon slayers win after managing to split between the train cars and discover the oni’s neck and cut it with their sword. And it is when Tanjiro finally achieves the ‘Total Concentration Breathing’ all the time, which is the first step to becoming a pillar.
But this movie must be spine-chilling because, just in its opening week in some countries, the anime broke box office records. The reception was so good that it even received a nomination for the Japan Prize Academy (日本アカデミー賞), which is similar to the Oscars.
In addition to the movie, which is set to premiere here in Brazil in May 2021, another season of the anime has already been confirmed. However, considering the manga that contains 161 chapters, we will probably have more seasons coming, folks!
But for now, we are only sure of the movie and one more season that will be released in 2021. So, will Nezuko be able to become human again?
