I will start by mentioning my favorite animes with different styles, the best in their genre. Then I will make another list of animes that exaggerated and have a unique art style but did not succeed due to their story or poor direction.

I confess that even in the list of best animes, I haven’t had the chance to watch them all; they usually aren’t my type of anime, but from the synopsis and fame, I know very well what to write about each of them.

Tengen toppa Gurren Laggan

Without a doubt, one of the best animes of my life, it has a unique, simple style that some may dislike. Not only its style but its offbeat story can be daunting with some exaggerations.

Still, Gurren Laggan is a must-watch anime and is among my TOP 5 best animes of all time. The anime starts with a simple comedy and script but is filled with emotions throughout its 25 episodes, with an exciting ending.

The anime tells the story of Simon and his partner Kamina who live underground until they finally discover life on the surface dominated by monsters in giant robots, where they fight using the power of belief and evolution.

The same author of Tengen Toppa Gurren Laggan also created another successful anime with a similar style called Kill la Kill, we won’t go into details here, but we recommend taking a good look.

No Game No Life

This anime was made by a Brazilian and has an exaggerated and exorbitant color palette. A color that personally scares me and lacks detail. Besides its interestingly different style, the anime has an epic story.

The anime tells the story of two step-siblings addicted to games who receive an invitation to enter a new world where everything is decided through trivial games. These two young people begin to conquer everything in the world in order to face other powerful races and the God of this world.

Kaiji and Akagi

These are two animes with the same style based on the works of Nobuyuki Fukumoto. Unfortunately, I have only watched Kaiji and totally loved the story and both seasons of the anime, waiting for a future continuation.

Both animes are psychological thrillers and gambling games. Kaiji is the anime of a protagonist who is in debt and enters a gambling boat to pay off all his debts or double them in deadly games. Akagi is about mahjong.

Both successful series by author Nobuyuki Fukumoto are about gambling and yakuza, with a unique art style featuring characters known for their big noses and large ears with strong and unique lines.

Danganronpa series

This is an anime with multiple seasons based on console games. It involves young boys trapped in a school who need to discover who murdered a certain student in a game of betting and judgment.

The students need to investigate, participate in a vote, and if they guess wrong about the murderer, everyone is killed and the murderer survives. If they guess correctly, the murderer is punished with a unique death.

Its art is also quite unique and different from the traditional, with bright and strong colors, a mix of reality, 3D, and other unique effects that can be found mainly in the first season of the anime.

Monogatari Series

Another anime with unique and beautiful styles that is popular among the male audience for its great fanservice and story. There are several animes featuring vampires, catgirls, and other types of girls with strong personalities, all ending in garati.

There are more than 13 different animes that follow the same art style; some can be considered spin-offs, but they all take place in the same universe, with a disorganized timeline that confuses those who wish to start watching.
