Launched in 1999, One Piece is still an anime that is among the favorites of otaku culture. Who has never even heard of this anime, right? The manga was released on July 19, 1997, and is still in production today. The One Piece manga has already collected a total of 100 volumes.
The manga was written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda and published by Jump Comics. The anime was released 2 years after the manga. The direction varies quite a bit between certain arcs, but the main director is Kônosuke Uda. The script is by Junki Takegami and Hirohiko Ueaka. The studio responsible is Toei Animation.
In the story, the protagonist Luffy sails with his crew with the goal of finding a treasure called One Piece that can make him the new king of pirates. Luffy started his journey alone but ended up looking for diverse people to be part of the Straw Hat Pirates. PART 1 – Sea of Survival: Supernovas Saga
1. East Blue Saga (1999 – 2001)

This saga is the first of One Piece, and it starts by talking about the protagonist Luffy, who is actually Monkey D. Luffy. Even without knowing how to swim, he decides to pursue his dream of gathering people to form his pirate crew, the Straw Hat Pirates. And it is during this search that the adventures begin to unfold.

2. Alabasta Saga (2001 – 2002)

In this saga, the crew is formed, and the Straw Hat Pirates are now official. The team aims to enter the Grand Line, the ocean region considered the most dangerous, also called the “pirate cemetery.” Luffy is at the helm of the navigation device called Log Pose. During this journey, they stop at Whisky Peak Island. Although this place is known for being very welcoming, the pirates realize that there are many secrets behind it.
The next island is Little Garden, where prehistoric animals and two giants live. On this island, they end up fighting a lot. Next, they go to the third island, Drum Island, where they seek someone to help Nami, who is sick. They fight against other pirates and integrate the doctor Tony Tony into the crew.

3. Skypiea Saga (2002 – 2004)

This is the saga with the most filler arcs, at the beginning and the end! The Straw Hats’ first destination is to stop at an island full of sheep. They also help a man while fleeing from a pursuit. In their escape, they go to Ruluka Island, which has a dictator. Besides fighting against the dictator, they have to fight for survival against Rainbow mist, a mist that opens a portal.
They later meet Nico Robin, a new companion of the crew. The Straw Hats try to solve the mystery of the ship that fell from the sky and a map that shows a city called Skypiea. They also confront the pirates of Masira. The crew ends up on Jaya Island.

4. Water 7 Saga (2004 – 2007)
- Arc Davy Back Fight (or Long Ring Long Land Arc): episodes 207 to 219;
- Arc Ocean Dream: episodes 220 to 224 (filler arc);
- Arc Return of Foxy: episodes 225 and 226 (semi-filler arc);

The Davy Back Fight arc was the first in the Adult Swim version (a channel for young adults that usually airs from night until morning). The Straw Hats have a dispute with the Foxy Pirates in the Davy Back Fight. In the two filler arcs of the saga, Luffy’s crew reunites with Foxy, Porche, and Hamburg. A fight begins and Aokiji returns.
The Straw Hats arrive at Water 7 Island, where the crew confronts the dangerous organization CP9 and marks many twists in the series. They later unite with Sogeking, the Franky Family, and Galley-La Company shipwrights to rescue Nico Robin and Franky. For this mission, they even enlist CP9, and Luffy declares war on the government.

5. Thriller Bark Saga (2007 – 2009)
- Arc Lovely Land: episodes 326 to 336 (filler arc);
- Arc Thriller Bark: episodes 337 to 381;
- Arc Spa Island: episodes 382 to 384 (filler arc);
This is one of the shortest sagas, with only 3 arcs. In this phase, Franky is part of the crew, the Straw Hats travel through the Florian Triangle and end up on the ghost island “Thriller Bark.” There, the crew has their shadows stolen by the sea Warlord Gecko Moria, and they only have until sunset to recover them.
The group ends up counting on the help of Brook, a living skeleton who assists them in fighting against Oars, giant creatures that Moria brings back to life. And Brook becomes part of the Straw Hat crew.

6. Marineford War Saga (2009 – 2011)

The saga begins with the Straw Hats visiting the tenth island of the Grand Line, called Sabaody Archipelago. On this island, they have to face opponents and the Eleven Supernova pirates. They end up being defeated by enemies such as Admiral Kizaru, the Pacifista, Bartolomeu Kuma, and Sentomaru.
Luffy goes to Amazon Lily Island, an island only for women who kill men when they appear. The other Straw Hat members are separated and end up in different places. Luffy needs to reunite the entire crew again and also save his brother Ace from the underwater prison.
Luffy can’t make it in time; Ace has been transferred to the Marine headquarters. To rescue him, he escapes from Impel Down with Jinbe, Emporio Ivankov, Crocodile, Mr. 1, Mr. 3, Buggy, and Inazuma to find Ace. The war is preparing with the dangerous confrontation between the protagonist’s titanic powers, the Marines, Whitebeard, and the other pirates trying to take down the Emperor.

PART 2 – The Final Sea: The New World Saga
7. Fish-Man Island Saga (2011 – 2012)
- Arc Return to Sabaody: episodes 517 to 522;
- Arc Fish-Man Island: episodes 523 to 574;
This saga has the fewest arcs, only two. This part takes place two years after the Marineford War, many things have changed during this period. Luffy’s bounty rises to 400,000,000 due to crimes committed against the Marines. The Straw Hat Pirates spent this time training, so they returned stronger and with greater mastery of their skills.
The Straw Hats go to Fish-Man Island, pursued by the Caribou Pirates. And as if that weren’t enough, they must face the inhabitants of the new island and save it from another danger. They manage to reach the New World, where they find illegal experiments in Dr. Vegapunk’s laboratory. Luffy discovers a conspiracy on Dressrosa Island.

8. Pirate Alliance Saga (2012 – 2016)

In the New World, the Straw Hats encounter the Marines and the New Marines, with whom they clash. The crew receives a call for help from Punk Hazard Island from a group suffering from samurais. They go to the island and are pursued by Vice Admiral Smoker.
They go to a place that is also home to one of Dr. Vegapunk’s laboratories, and some enemies have conducted experiments that could have disastrous results. The Eleven Supernova group causes chaos in the New World, being considered the “Worst Generation” of pirates.

The connection is with the movie One Piece Film: Gold. It shows the events after Doflamingo’s defeat. The Straw Hats, Trafalgar Law, Kin’emon, and Kanjuro go to Zou Island (one of the New World islands). The island is surrounded by the Beast Pirates.
Luffy, Nami, Tony Tony Chopper, Brook, and Pekoms head to Whole Cake Island. The group tries to rescue Sanji and save him from his arranged marriage with Charlotte. The group still needs to defeat the Big Mom of the Four Emperors.
Luffy’s bounty rises to 1,500,000,000. The Ninja-Pirate-Mink-Samurai Alliance recruits allies in Wano Country to free the nation from the control of shogun Kurozumi Orochi, Emperor Kaido and his crew, and the Beast Pirates. However, the group still needs to deal with the Big Mom Pirates, who followed them to Wano Country seeking revenge. Big Mom decides to form an alliance with Kaido to conquer the world.
