Today we’re going to talk about animes, and I chose my favorite anime that is a bit unknown and ignored by Brazilians, but has great success in Japan, the famous Detective Conan.
Detective Conan is a manga and anime, written and illustrated by Gosho Aoyama, the manga has been published in the weekly magazine Shōnen Sunday since 1994, totaling over 80 volumes. The anime was released in 1996 and is approaching 800 episodes and 20 movies without counting the OVAs and specials.
Detective Conan is an anime for the whole family (even my mom watches it), very popular in Japan and it even surpasses One Piece in the weekly audience ranking.

Plot of Detective Conan
Detective Conan shows the story of a high school student and detective named Kudo Shinichi, who while at the amusement park with his childhood friend Ran Mouri, witnesses a suspicious transaction involving 2 men in black.
He ends up being caught and poisoned with a drug called APTX 4869 and turns into a child. To keep his identity a secret and find the organization responsible for the drug, he adopts the pseudonym Edogawa Conan and goes to live in the house of his childhood friend Ran Mouri, whom he is in love with and whose father is also a detective.
As the series progresses, numerous crimes and cases are secretly solved by Conan while detective Mouri Kogoro receives all the credit.
I put a very short synopsis to avoid spoilers.

My Opinion
I am not used to watching old animes. But Detective Conan hooked me in a strange way, I started by watching a Live Action that isn’t even good, and then I got to know the anime. I used to watch it during lunch on the tube television in my living room, since the resolution of the anime fit perfectly, before I knew it, I was already on episode 200 with my mom following along.
All the characters were interesting, despite each episode having a different crime, there is a great timeline and main story in the plot, the black organization. Not to mention other special appearances from characters in the city of Osaka and a famous jewel thief known as Kaito Kid.
The anime shows a bit of the intelligence of the Japanese in devising crimes, and shows the work of the police and detectives, we end up seeing various relationships, controversies, betrayals, regrets, romances, and a lot of comedy. Not to mention that thanks to the anime I got to know a lot about the culture and cities of Japan.
The soundtrack fits perfectly with the anime, Conan’s theme has become something nostalgic, its openings and endings have surpassed 100. Singers like Mai Kuraki are famous for doing several openings and endings for the anime.
People may look at the anime, face the old graphics, and think that the anime is childish. I doubt that children can understand all the complexity of Detective Conan. If you are not used to watching an anime because it is old and has bad graphics, it is better to kill yourself watch the recent movies to get to know the style of the anime better.

Negative Points of Detective Conan
I agree that there are many factors and clichés that discourage people from watching Detective Conan, but I see these things as a charm of the anime.
- It is very strange how Conan uses Mouri to solve cases. He just makes Mouri sleep and speaks using a tie that alters his voice… how does no one notice?
- The anime is approaching 800 episodes, 20 years have passed since Detective Conan began, technologies have appeared in the anime, and Conan remains a child in the same school and class as his classmates. So many cases have been solved and not even 3 months have passed?
- The ease of encountering murders and crimes, to the point that now Mouri Kogoro is known for bringing bad luck, as he is always at a crime scene;
- I can’t see a need for Conan to hide his true identity from Ran Mouri. And I have no idea how she still hasn’t discovered it after everything;
- The way he recovers his body and turns back into a child numerous times is kind of unrealistic and bizarre;
Why can’t these clichés and unrealities discourage us? Have you ever seen a 100% realistic anime? Does an anime really need to have reality to be very good? (Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann)

Curiosities about Detective Conan
- In the United States, the anime is known by the name Case Closed;
- The first movie was dubbed into Portuguese and 26 episodes were dubbed in Portuguese from Portugal;
- The anime has a crossover with the classic Lupin III, having 2 movies;
- The villain and secondary character of Detective Conan, Kaito Kid has his own Spin Off;
- There are 3 live-action movies and series in Dorama of Detective Conan;
- People usually call One Piece a big anime, remembering that Detective Conan has more episodes;
Outburst
I can’t understand the problem of Brazilians abandoning this great work, I can’t watch all 700 episodes of Detective Conan because no fansub subtitles them. Those who call themselves otakus totally ignore this classic, it’s not the first time, the same thing happened with the anime Uchuu Kyoudai, another success in Japan, ignored by Brazilians. Currently, we have 2 fansubs that subtitle, A liga do Sul and Silver Bullet, we have many subtitled episodes, including the new episodes 600+, unfortunately, there are some gaps to be filled.
Don’t be discouraged from watching Detective Conan due to the lack of some subtitled episodes, the anime usually divides crimes into 1, 2, and sometimes 3 episodes, and they usually don’t have connections. The first 200 episodes are essential to get to know the characters. And yes, as I mentioned once, the anime follows a main line and story.
I think the best way to get to know the anime is by watching it, but I leave here this great favorite work of mine as a recommendation for you to get to know.
And you? Do you know this masterpiece? What do you think? Share your opinion with us.

Videos
Before we finish, watch some videos and trailers, from movies or parts of the anime to catch your attention a bit, and so you can hear the theme of the anime.
