Uchouten Kazoku

Synopsis: Kyoto has been populated by groups of Tanuki and Tengu for years, living alongside humans who do not have the existence of these creatures. Yasaburou Shimogamo is the third son of an influential Tanuki family who spends his carefree days taking care of an old tengu, observing humans through his ability to shape and deal with the mysterious woman named Benten.

Behind peace and tranquility, however, is a painful memory of a long time ago, as Yasaburou's father, head of the Tanuki community, was killed and eaten by a group of human beings known as Friday scholarships. Uchouten Kazoku follows the trials and trials of the Shimogamo brothers as they struggle to avoid their own terrible death, as they get closer and closer to unraveling the truth behind their father's death.

    Summary and events

    4. Yasaburou meets Benten, a mysterious woman who is friends with humans and has a complicated relationship with the Shimogamo family.
    5. The Shimogamo family tries to find out who killed souichirou and avenging it.
    6. Yasaburou ends up getting involved in a fight between Tanukis and Tengu (bird spirits) and is captured by Tengu.
    7. Yasaburou discovers that Benten is a former Tonuki who was transformed into a human by a tengua named Akadama.
    8. Yasaburou manages to escape the Tengu and returns to the Shimogamo family.
    9. The Shimogamo family manages to avenge Souichirou's death.
    10. Yasaburou and Benten have a final confrontation, in which Yasaburou tries to convince her to be a Tanuki again.
    11. The series ends with the Himogamo family gathered and Yasaburou reflecting on life and death.

    What happens in the end?

    At the end of Uchouten Kazoku's manga, the Shimogamo family manages to overcome their internal and external conflicts and come together again. Yasaburou becomes the new Tanukis leader and can maintain peace among the different species that inhabit the city. The relationship between Benten and Yasaburou is still ambiguous, but there is evidence that they can have a future together. The ending is quite emotional and satisfactory for fans of the series.
