Synopsis: After a devastating attack by the criminal group known as the Masked Demons, the Eighth Division of the Shinsengumi, the law and order force in Kyoto, suffers almost all of its losses, leaving Heisuke Toudou as the only severely injured survivor. Faced with the urgency of restoring the division's honor under the command of the feudal Katamori Matsudaira, Toudou proposes redemption to eight prisoners, offering them new names and roles as substitutes for the Shinsengumi captains. Despite everyone's enthusiasm, the adaptation is not always easy, especially with the presence of the impetuous Ichibanboshi, who seeks revenge against those responsible for his family's death. As Toudou struggles to protect the shogunate in times of growing turmoil, rival forces, such as Kogorou Katsura's group, begin to plot their own plans to seize power at the end of the Edo period.
