Synopsis:

Shingeki no Kyojin follows humanity confined within massive Walls — Maria, Rose and Sina — living under the constant threat of the Titans: colossal beings that devour people for unknown reasons. When Wall Maria is breached and the Titans invade, the society of Paradis is forced to confront buried secrets, Three-Dimensional Maneuver Gear technology and a past that connects the Walls to the rest of the world.

As the series unfolds, confrontations between the Survey Corps, the Garrison Regiment and outside powers like Marley reveal political motivations, hidden identities and a global plan capable of destroying or liberating all humanity — putting the survival of Paradis Island, the truth about the Titans and the price of freedom at stake.

Shingeki no Kyojin Universe

The central setting is Paradis Island, occupied by towns and villages arranged along three concentric Walls — Maria, Rose and Sina — which structure territories, social classes and routines. Daily life revolves around the security of the Walls: inner districts (wealthier) concentrate administration and privileges, while the outer rings face agricultural labor, unrest and the risk of attacks.

Institutions and structures that shape coexistence:

  • Organized military forces: responsible for defense, patrolling the Walls and external expeditions — their role defines who leaves the Walls and what information reaches the public.
  • Central and religious authority: the internal government, allied with a cult that legitimizes the Walls, controls information and official history, keeping secrets about the origin of the Titans.
  • Conscription systems and social hierarchy: military recruitment and career paths within the divisions (Garrison Regiment, Military Police Brigade and Survey Corps) determine social mobility and community reputation.

Recurring spaces and symbolic objects define behavior: walled streets and plazas that become refuge and prison; stables and trails where horses and maneuvers are trained; Three-Dimensional Maneuver Gear, a symbol of autonomy and risk; and attics and basements that hold family secrets capable of shaking collective certainties. Official communication is filtered by the State and the church, while rumors and memories transmitted by letters, diaries and expedition reports circulate through the military ranks and local communities.

The cultural climate is one of surveillance and pressure: constant fear of attacks shapes preparation rituals, restrained celebrations and an ethic of sacrifice. Uncertainty about the outside world creates a strong sense of isolationist identity, while internal tensions — between class, military duty and intellectual curiosity — encourage rebellions, expeditions and conflicts that turn everyday spaces into crisis scenes.

Summary of Shingeki no Kyojin

  • Fall of Shiganshina and the breach of Wall Maria: Titans break the Wall, millions displaced and civilian deaths; introduction of the Titan threat and the need to drive them out.
  • Battle of Trost District and the enlistment of recruits: demonstration of the effectiveness of the Three-Dimensional Maneuver Gear and the establishment of the military divisions (Garrison Regiment, Military Police Brigade and Survey Corps).
  • Expeditions outside the Walls and the emergence of the Female Titan: expeditions reveal dangers beyond the Walls; the Female Titan is identified as a conscious threat capable of crystallizing and evading capture.
  • Return to Shiganshina and the basement revelations: the Survey Corps retakes the district, finds the basement that reveals the history of the Titans, the origin of Paradis Island and the existence of an outside world with nations such as Marley.
  • Exposure of the outside world and the secrets of Marley: discoveries about technology, Marley’s imperialism and the fact that the inhabitants of Paradis are Eldians regarded as enemies outside the Walls.
  • Marley’s offensive and the battle in Liberio: Marley attacks Paradis and an invasion led by Marley’s Warriors takes place; Paradis responds with internal and external operations.
  • Infiltration of Marley and the attack on Liberio’s capital: an operation by Eren and allies inside enemy territory escalates the conflict and provokes international retaliation.
  • Escalation to total war between Paradis and the world powers: confrontations, alliances and ideological clashes increase as both sides suffer significant losses.
  • Revelation of the Rumbling plan and Eren’s transformation: Eren adopts a radical stance, activates the march of the Walls (the Rumbling) with the goal of annihilating external threats and protecting Paradis by genocidal means.
  • Formation of an alliance against Eren: former enemies and former allies unite to stop the mass genocide caused by the Rumbling; they penetrate the mental/conscious space of the Founding Titan.
  • Final battle and Eren’s death: Mikasa kills Eren, the Rumbling is stopped and the power of the Titans disappears, reverting Titan transformations.
  • Epilogue and consequences: a devastated world with millions dead; Paradis survives but faces isolation and tensions; diplomatic efforts and reconstruction attempt to prevent a new cycle of violence, while memories and narratives about the Titans span generations.

Shingeki no Kyojin Ending

Outcome: Eren activates the Rumbling, using the power of the Founding Titan to march the colossal Walls and decimate a large portion of the population outside Paradis Island in an attempt to protect his people. An unlikely alliance between members of Paradis Island and former enemies from Marley invades Eren’s consciousness and confronts his forces inside the Titan. In the final confrontation, Mikasa is the one who ends Eren’s life, beheading him and ending the Rumbling. With Eren’s death, the power of the Titans disappears; those transformed into Titans return to human form and Titan transformations become impossible to repeat.

Consequences: The resulting world is devastated: vast regions have been obliterated and millions of lives lost. Paradis survives but remains isolated and under international suspicion; diplomatic initiatives try to avoid a new war. Armin and other survivors take roles in reconstruction and negotiations, while Mikasa, marked by loss, maintains a private connection to Eren’s grave. The epilogue shows generations still dealing with memories of the Titans and the ambivalence between revenge, reconciliation and rebuilding in a world without Titan powers.
