Anime that aired on Brazilian open TV

Many people had their first contact with Japanese animations through Brazilian open TV. Yes, there was a time when anime was shown in Brazil. And for a generation of people, that was the only way to watch and follow anime. Anime arrived around the 60s in Brazil. having the anime Steel man one of the first to be shown.

In 1964, it was broadcast National Kid, which despite being a tokusatsu series, boosted the consumption and popularity of anime. Soon came here Anime like: Speed Racer, The Princess and the Knightsuper dynamo, Zillion, between others. But none of these have achieved the success and taste of the majority. In 1970, during the Military Dictatorship, it was banned in Brazil any series that had superheroes.

Animes that aired on Brazilian TV

It was only in the 80s that anime began to return to Brazilian TV, mainly on TV Manchete. In 1988, the first Brazilian event was held for fans of anime and manga. But in the mid 80's, what was really hot was the sereis tokusatsus, like Jiraiya and Jaspion. But everything changed with the arrival in Brazil in 1994 of You Knights of the Zodiac on the Manchete Network. The anime maintained high ratings for two years, becoming a big hit and craze at the time.

Soon other Anime were appearing on TV Manchete as Super champions, Sailor Moon, Yu Yu Hakusho and Samurai Warriors. Other Brazilian broadcasters also tried to show anime in their programming. SBT was responsible for bringing Dragon Ball, Fly the Little Warrior and Astro Boy. Rede Record in 1999 brought the Pokémon, which was very successful. Soon, Globo, in order not to fall behind its competitors, broadcast Digimon, Beyblade, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Dragon Ball Z and many others.

But in early 2001, anime began to lose its audience in Brazil. Much because of strong censorship they suffered and for not passing the correct episode chronology. The rise and popularity of the internet has also contributed to a certain extent to the decline of anime on Brazilian TV. Even so, some Anime at that time were very successful like Hantaro, Zatch Bell, Naruto, One piece, Hunter x Hunter and Super Eleven. Soon the number of anime was decreasing, but many are grateful and proud to know the golden age of anime on Brazilian TV.
