Zelda Breath of the Wild Review: A Legendary Adventure

On March 3, 2017 one of the best games of the Legend of Zelda franchise was released, and in this article we will do a detailed analysis of the game, as well as some curiosities and my personal experience with the game. The game The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild  –ゼルダの伝説ブレスオブザワイルド (Zeruda no densetsu buresu obu za wairudo) can be literally translated as “The Breath of Nature” or as I like to say: wild breath. It started to be developed before 2013 and was released for the Nintendo WII U and Nintendo Switch consoles.

The game tells the Story of Link that ends up awakening 100 years after Ganon returns and spreads Chaos dominating the 4 beasts and the ancient guardians. As always, the link needs to save Hyrule and Princess Zelda. to do this, he needs to recover the memories of 100 years ago, regain control of the 4 beasts and head towards the castle to fight Ganon.

The game features several new features and changes compared to previous versions. The world is wide open and you can decide what you want to do in the order you want, including defeating Ganon from the start. The game has only 4 main dungeons that are the beasts, all have a controllable mechanism and it is necessary to activate some terminals within it. The highlight of the game is the thousands of Shrines, a kind of mini dungeon where you can get orbs that can be exchanged for heart and stamina.

There are more than 100 mini dungeons scattered throughout the game. Not to mention the bosses in open areas, and little puzzles, mazes and missions around the world. It is worth mentioning the more than 900 korok seeds that need to be found by solving small puzzles. Another difference of the game is that you can take any weapon from any enemy, however they break after a certain use. This time Link is able to jump and climb almost anything in the world.

Zelda Breath of the Wild in the media

The game was wildly successful and received top marks in most gaming magazines. A major contributor to boosting Nintendo Switch launch sales. Some questioned the 9.8 rating the game received on metacritic. That's because the game has some frame drops (like most games). Many claim that he got this grade just for the Zelda name and nostalgia.

The name Zelda had an influence, but I believe that even if it was released under another name, its grade would be high. It wasn't the names, let alone graphics, that made several indies earn high marks. Zelda Breath of the Wild was able to surpass even the father of Action RPGs: Zelda Ocarina of Time. Once again Zelda proved that you don't need 50gb of files or 4k to dominate the market. I believe this is the proposal of the Nintendo Switch and his great indie support.

My experience with Zelda Breath of the Wild

This was undoubtedly one of the best games I've ever played. The game featured all the main elements of the franchise, characters and the epic soundtrack. For the first time I was able to explore an open world without getting sick and wanting to take just about everything. The game has enough content to provide more than 300 hours of games without any boredom.

I wanted to quickly clear the game, knowing that it is possible to go directly to Ganon's castle. I even tried but this game is very difficult, several monsters kill in just one hit, I felt a strong influence from Dark Souls. Before attacking Ganon I try to complete the 4 beasts, Zelda’s 12 memories, the mazes, the master sword and as many mini dungeons as possible. I don't have much to describe, I just know that this game has stolen weeks of my life and I consider it the best so far. The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild was the game that evolved without losing its essence.

Zelda Breath of the Wild fun facts

Did you know that the game world was based on the map of Kyoto. Please note below:

The game received several references and inspirations from games like Skyrim, The Witcher 3, Assassin's Creed, Metal Gear, Xenoblade, Dark Souls and many others. We can notice references to the AC in the towers used to release the map and in some costumes. Not to mention that the Xenoblade company was involved in the development of Zelda Breath of the Wild.

I don't even need to mention the other Zelda references that the fans must have noticed. Is that you? What did you think of the game? Do you have any opinion, curiosity to comment?
