In this article we will see a complete list of Japanese lakes and rivers, their names, location and their writing in Japanese. Japan's rivers are generally short and steep, due to mountainous region in the country, many are used to provide water and electricity.

Japan's typical rivers rise in the mountains and descend into the valleys where they extend and are used for agriculture, and rice cultivation. Recalling that in addition to rivers Japan has several lakes and springs of thermal water.

Japan's longest river is the Shinano, which flows from Nagano to Niigata. The Tone River has the largest hydrographic basin and serves water for more than 30 million inhabitants. The Mogami, Fuji and Kuma rivers are the three fastest rivers in Japan.
