Many people had their first contact with Japanese animations on Brazilian open TV. Yes, there was a time when anime was happening in Brazil. And for a generation of people, that was the only way to watch and follow animes. Anime arrived around the 60s in Brazil. Having anime Steel man one of the first to be shown.

In 1964, it was transmitted National Kid, which even being a tokusatsu series, boosted the consumption and popularity of anime. Soon anime like here came: Speed Racer, The princess and the knightSuper Dynamo, Zillion, among others. But none of these achieved the success and taste of the majority. In 1970, during the Military Dictatorship, prohibited in Brazil any series that had superheroes.

It was only in the 1980s that anime began to return to Brazilian TV, mainly on TV Manchete. In 1988 the first Brazilian event was held for anime and manga fans. But in the mid 80's what was really up was the sereis tokusatsus, like Jiraya and Jaspion. But everything changed with the arrival in Brazil in 1994 of The Knights of the Zodiac on Rede Manchete. The anime maintained high ratings for two years, becoming a great success and craze of the time.

Soon other anime appeared on TV Manchete as Super champions, Sailor Moon, Yu Yu Hakusho and Samurai Warriors. Other Brazilian broadcasters also sought to show anime on their programming. SBT was responsible for bringing Dragon Ball, Fly the Little Warrior and Astro Boy. Rede Record in 1999 brought the Pokémon, which was very successful. Therefore, Globo, in order not to fall behind its competitors, broadcast Digimon, Beyblade, Yu-Gi-Oh !, Dragon Ball Z and many others.

But in early 2001, anime began to lose its audience in Brazil. Much because of strong censorship that they suffered and for not passing the correct episode chronology. The increase and popularity of the internet has also contributed in some way to the decrease in anime on Brazilian TV. Even so, some anime at that time were very successful as Hantaro, Zatch Bell, Naruto, One piece, Hunter x Hunter and Super Eleven. Soon the number of anime was decreasing, but many are grateful and proud to know the golden age of anime on Brazilian TV.
